When Manos first visited the community at the Mexico site, there was no access to electricity for the people, no community center, and no place locally for extracurricular and youth development programs for the poor. Volunteers asked locals "why" and from that, ignited a spirit of ideas and curiosity that led to a progression in this poor border-town community, which now maintains the Manos Community Center.
Similarly, at remote Manos sites in China, programs continue to progress to benefit the children living in poverty. It's amazing what the question "why?" can achieve. In Mexico, local community members united to have access to electricity. In China, local volunteers visited village governments and schools to make their cause known. That was more than 17 years ago, and Manos continues to progress to benefit the children of these remote communities. Manos Volunteers and Supporters know that when they unite, they can MOVE MANOS! From maintaining the heat in the winter while children come to our program sites, to getting our volunteers out to the children we serve, Manos' League of Donors play an important role in 'Moving Manos Monthly!" |
